COVID-19 Coronavirus Update
At present, the Scout Association is advocating following the Governmental guidance on Coronavirus and in line with that has developed a Framework with supporting documents for groups, advising on the phased return to Scouting. This can be viewed here:
At this stage, we continue to follow the Governmental guidance and the lead set by the Scout Association and National Youth Association and are beginning a phased return to face-to-face Scouting blended with online digital scouting programme. Guidance released on the 6th July, allows for youth groups to resume face-to-face meetings within certain restrictions. In line with the Scout Association's guidance, in response to this, we have followed The Scout Association's Framework for planning for how we can implement a safe return to face-to-face scouting in the Hope Valley.
In line with Government guidance, from the 4th July, we resumed the rental of the hut to visiting (non-scouting) groups. Rentals are at weekends only, allowing a full 72 hours minimum between rentals for the building to be cleaned before subsequent bookings/meetings.
Visiting groups, hiring the Scout Hut, should ensure that they have appropriate events cover in the event that cancellation due to the Coronavirus becomes necessary, either by 1st Hathersage Scout Group or by the visiting group. Refunds/Cancellations will be treated in line with the booking terms and conditions at the time of the booking.
The Scout Group has prepared a full and detailed Risk Assessment for the return to Scouting, along with individual Risk Assessments for each Section, with section-specific risks addressed. This is on top of our normal Risk Assessment procedures, implemented on a weekly basis for each activity.
Our Group Risk Assessment can be viewed here.
We have modified the Scout Hut and arrnagements, to provide improved and more numerous hand sanitisation points, provision of PPE and symbolised signage to remind everyone to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene.
Please feel free to contact us with further questions.

Adults, want to Join the Adventure too?
The fun doesn't stop at 18! - Scouting is also about adult volunteers; learning new skills, building up your CV, giving back to the community and having fun!
It doesn't have to be time-consuming; it might be something simple like offering to help wash the tea-towels, or help with some admin, or maybe you're a glutton for glitter, crazy about craft or a first-rate fire starter!
So why not get in touch to see how you can get involved or pop along to see what its all about!?
1st Hathersage Scout Group has been established for many years; in fact, we are coming up to our Centenary in 2019! For over 100 years the group has been providing scouting opportunities to children across the Hope Valley. Many things have changed over the years, but we still remain true to the principles of Scouting and work to provide almost endless possibilities to boys and girls; helping them develop, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun!
At Hathersage we are lucky enough to have a Beaver Colony, two Cub Packs and a Scout Troop, with an Explorer Group only a couple of miles away. This means we are able to provide scouting opportunities to boys and girls from 6 - 18 and beyond.
We also offer great opportunities for adults who may wish to get involved with scouting as Leaders, Assistant Leaders, Occasional Helpers or just offering their specialist skills occasionally, to help support the group.
Our Scout Hut is for Hire!
We are very proud of our Scout Hut and put a lot of effort into keeping it nice and well cared for. You can hire our hut out for the day or for weekend stays at one of the lowest prices you will find in the Valley; and when you do, all that money goes back into looking after our hut and running the Scout Group.
Lots of different groups hire our hut, such as Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, Students, Training Courses, Climbers, Walkers, etc.,
